If you enjoyed this interview with Dr. Colby, please consider upgrading your subscription to a paid membership. Your support makes it possible for me to continue to bring these talented historians and their books to you. Thanks.

For this interview I am joined by historian Robert K.D. Colby, who teaches history at the University of Mississippi. His new book titled, An Unholy South: Slave Trading in the Civil War South (Oxford University Press) is one of those books that every serious student of the Civil War era should read. The book fills in an important gap in our understanding of the Confederacy and the history of slavery.

UPDATE: Yesterday I wrote about the dedication of a new Confederate monument on the Franklin battlefield in Tennessee. On Monday I will interview Eric Jacobson from The Battle of Franklin Trust, who was involved in the dedication. This conversation will address many of your questions and concerns, but will only be available to paid subscribers. Make sure to upgrade your subscription so you don’t miss it.

Civil War Memory is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
