It would be interesting to see what students learned about the Confederacy in this particular school in 1968.

So in a very brief search I found this US history textbook “The Rainbow Book of American History,” “First published 1955 this is the new and revised (second) edition of 1968.” https://www.abebooks.com/rainbow-book-American-History-Earl-Schenck/30919748285/bd I’m not saying South Dade High used this book; that would take a lot more research. But if they did, these screen shots I pulled from another site of the table of contents are rather revealing. https://openlibrary.org/works/OL6833912W/The_rainbow_book_of_American_history

Welp, I can’t figure out how to attach photos. So,

Ch. 25 BY THE NORTH STAR The Underground Railroad 1804-1860

Ch. 32 JOHNNY REB The South Fires on Fort Sumpter 1861

Ch. 33 THE SECRET OF THE OLD DESK From Bull Run to Gettysburg 1861-1863

Ch. 34 WHEN THE WORLD ENDED Sherman’s March to the Sea and the Surrender at Appomattox 1865

Thanks, Suzanne. It could be any number of books. Donald Yacovone does a good of surveying these textbooks in his new book, *Teaching White Supremacy.*
