It is about time that this kind of propaganda is treated like the private indictment that it is. The Lost Cause was a horrid abuse of the historical record and the fact that people still try to push for its glorification and use is wild to me.

As the historian David Blight has said, as long as there is a politics of history, there will be a politics of Civil War memory. We will continue to see ceremonies like this take place as well as public figures embracing it to push their political agendas, but it is important to place it in historical context, which is what I have attempted to do here and in numerous other blog posts.

There is absolutely no comparison with the influence that the Lost Cause enjoyed even just a few decades ago.
