Has anyone read The Grimkes: The Legacy of Slavery in an American Family or the new Jon Menachem biography of Lincoln? I have them on hold (have not read them) and would be wondering if they would be considered for best Civil War book of 2022

I haven’t read either. I haven’t seen too many reviews of Meacham’s book but the one in the Washington Post by John Fabian Witt was complimentary. I was supposed to see him talk a few weeks ago but missed it due to Covid.

Hi Steve,

I just started the Grimke book and it is quite good. I also highly recommend Greenidge's previous book about William Monroe Trotter. I have no plans to read Meacham's new Lincoln book.
