In a survey of 8,620 respondents, 50.1 “…said they at least somewhat agree that a civil war will happen soon, while 47.8 percent disagreed.” “… more than 40 percent said having a ‘strong leader’ for the country is more important than having a democracy. Almost 1 in 5 said they agreed ‘strongly’ or ‘very strongly’ with that statement.”
The problem with these surveys is that it's never clear to me what is meant by 'civil war.' I suspect that some people are thinking about some aspect of the American Civil War, but this reflects how little they understand the relevant history.
Yes, I thought the same, that they have little to no understanding of that period of our history. Having conducted phone surveys, I alway want to see the actual questions, if they are worded to elicit a specific response; hopefully not in this case.
I share many of these feelings, and am glad the tour helped you deal with them.
I hope to take one for the same purpose sometime. In addition to the violence, the worst image from the failed coup is that yahoo carrying a Confederate flag inside the Capitol - a feat never performed by any actual Confederates.
As always Dr. Levin describes my emotions in succinct and amazing ways that I doubt I could ever match. I remember touring the capitol during my time with the Junior Statesmen of America and how absolutely beautiful it was. I remember reacting to the capitol riot when I was trying to cover the Democratic victory in Georgia and how I had to stop streaming because I was so angry. I will never forget that day.
I am touched by your reactions and I think I would feel much the same. I am a poll worker this insurrection makes me want to protect and hold up my countrymen to a higher standard You are are a great example of a great citizen

I fear for our country.

But, still frightening.

This also disturbed me to my core.
I am glad we didn't walk through the corridor where the photograph of Seefried was taken near the portraits of Sumner and Calhoun.
