Hi Lara. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I think we need to keep in mind that many of our monuments are not about history at all. In fact, they distort the very history that you believe to be so important. Monuments are more about how people choose to remember the past and the values that they claim are embodied in a particular monument. Perceptions change over time and sometimes a substantial number of people disagreed with the placement of a particular monument from day one, but were prevented from speaking out.
