I here take note that you referred to it as the United States Army between 1861 and 1865. I believe this is an important trend that we should all adopt.
I’ve always tried to make the former guy as small as possible so usually refer to him as dt. Working in my sobriety app this morning, I realized that also stands for delirium tremens:
“The main symptoms of delirium tremens are nightmares, agitation, global confusion, disorientation, visual and auditory hallucinations, tactile hallucinations, fever, high blood pressure, heavy sweating, and other signs of autonomic hyperactivity (fast heart rate and high blood pressure).
“Delirium tremens usually includes extremely intense feelings of ‘impending doom.’ Severe anxiety and feelings of imminent death are common DT symptoms.
I am not equating our democratic republic with alcohol addiction. Far from it. I am saying that when a country has long held beliefs (tho not always actions) of equality and justice, and has fought wars to establish and defend them, then abandoning those beliefs can lead to a similar disruption and illness in the body politic.
Lincoln was willing to go to war to preserve the United States as one nation. dt was, and still is, willing to go to war to destroy it and rebuild it in his own image. And we appear, with few exceptions, to be sleepwalking thru it all. 💔🤬
To borrow a phrase repeatedly used by another problematic former POTUS, I am cautiously optimistic.
While I doubt the hearings will change anybody’s mind, they may encourage more democracy loving people to vote. News from my former home state, Utah, is that Mike Lee is up against strong support for an Independent, Evan McMullin. If Mike Lee loses his seat in Utah, anything is possible! It will be interesting to see what actions the DOJ takes.
Hmmm....maybe I'm a tad optimistic, but I was thinking (hoping?) that as the J6 insurrection hearings proceeds, the viewership would increase. I really like Mr. DiPaolo's "Do not drag this out" regarding the hearings----however, after two years, the entire legal proceed has been dragged out.
Kevin, I have been following this, as a number of people have, and should be, to see justice served and full prosecution of the attack on the Capital. Where I see a problem is the length of time this is all taking. You mention that viewership and interest may not stay at the current level. I fully agree. Unfortunately our society is now instant gratification. To rehash in excruciating detail again and again will only lose people and support. They need to get to the point now. Detail charges exactly and to whom. Do not drag this out. Peoples minds will not change until we get to that point. Then let the legal process press charges and prosecute. The quicker the better.
Hi Mike. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I honestly don't know the answer here. On the one hand, I agree that dragging it out will likely result in declining engagement. At the same time, to just rush through it will result in deepening divisions and adding legitimacy to claims that the committee's work is nothing more than a political hatchet job.
Today's Republicans, with a few noble exceptions, appear to be Copperheads, not War Democrats.
It's difficult to know how many have gone off the edge.

“DT occurs in 5–10% of alcoholics and carries up to 15% mortality with treatment and up to 35% mortality without treatment.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delirium_tremens

I will continue to use both references, but your point is well taken.

Yes you have......but NPR approves.
Not sure what this means, but thanks for taking the time to respond.
