I love the children's picture book about the surrender, The Silent Witness.

Thanks for sharing. I don't know much about children's books about the Civil War, but I did have what I thought was a really good idea for a children's book about the monument controversy. Unfortunately, I was unable to connect with someone to work with on it.

That sounds like a great project. I’d love to hear what approach you would take, and what grade levels would be your audience.

I know nothing about children and I didn't really think it through entirely. I envisioned something set along Monument Avenue at the height of the debate. Two kids--one Black and one white meet--among the crowd and begin a conversation about what is taking place. They are not really sure why their parents feel so strongly about their respective positions, but as they share their family stories the two begin to appreciate their differences and where they might be able to find common ground.

Something along those lines.
