Just any FYI (I'm blaming this on my daughter)---there is an online entity, Bookshop.org, that supports independent brick-and-mortar bookshops. Their online site is here:
I sometimes post links to IndieBound, which links to local independent bookstores. Admittedly, I do rely on my Amazon affiliate account, which I rely on to be able to pick up new history books. I encourage everyone to support their local independent bookstores.
One last comment. Your Substack is outstanding. I’m so glad I found it.
Thanks, Trich. I really appreciate the kind words.
Thanks for the link to Gabriel Arana’s story. Loved it.
Is your Chamberlain talk going to be recorded? I'd love to hear it.
Looking forward to your review of Varon's book on Longstreet.
Not sure, but I will definitely share it with the community if it is recorded.
Thanks! (and break a leg!)
The Bernese Mountain Dog has exactly the right expression for a Civil War General who won't tolerate failure from his subordinates.
Otis will tolerate pretty much anything if it leads to a meal and a good nap. LOL
Otis looks great in uniform!

Might want to make your book-links there, rather than Amazon.
Otis still looks great, though!
Hi Jim,
