“History is about people. It’s not about dates, quotations, provisios, and so forth, it’s about people. History is human.”
Mr McCullough certainly had a way of making history come alive in the narratives he built. I have his John Adams, 1776, and The Pioneers books. All great reads and very educational. Vale.
I recall reading in Truman that Mr. Truman's family (in his youth) annually celebrated the assassination of President Lincoln. Truly a jaw dropper -- I hadn't considered people doing that.
My two favorites are his Brooklyn Bridge book and biography of John Adams. I met him in a Dallas airport not too long ago. He was incredibly kind and personable. We had a wonderful conversation.

Besides being an excellent writer, he was an excellent narrator of the Ken Burns Civil War series. He has passed but his books live on.

His Truman bio was beyond wonderful, plus what a voice. RIP Sir!
