The DOGE project isn’t just about dividing people or paying for more tax giveaways to the rich; it’s also about convincing people that government as we know it just doesn’t work. This is where the destruction of the NPS comes in. Likewise the gutting of the National Weather Service. These jewels can only survive as for-profit entities in private hands. The Oligarch Way.

Thanks. It's devastating, especially considering the erosion that has taken place.

Indeed, which is finally beginning to be fixed. I know that the education specialist was going to receive a reward for her work, but was then let go for “poor performance”.

I assume the focus on killing off National Parks in much of the country is about not liking the historical events and processes that have made the country what it is. MAGA doesn't like what the country is. Out west, it's probably more because the parks have impeded mining and other commercial development. Wouldn't Tuolumne Meadows make a great tourist resort?

You haven’t heard from ABT because the leadership loves 45/47. I have friends who worked for them under the 45 administration, and the leadership was ecstatic when 45 was elected. They even put out a thank Trump postcard to mail in at one point, I believe when 45 contributed a paycheck to Antietam National Park. That’s one of few things I will thank 45 for. So that’s my hunch why you haven’t heard any concerns expressed by them.

Thank you for this information. So disappointed and disgusted.

Thanks for this post and for including that observation. At https://www.battlefields.org/about/contact, I found three relevant e-addresses and sent this query:

Thanks for all that all of you do. I still appreciate the support we got here in Virginia, led by Mr. Lighthizer, during our struggle to head off overdevelopment at post-Army Fort Monroe on Point Comfort.

Forgive me if I have simply missed something, but I hope you will post on your website--and announce elsewhere as well--what you are thinking and doing, or will be doing, about the damage to the cause of national battlefield memory in the Trump administration's carelessly conducted attack on our national parks.

The SS, Gestapo, and stormtroopers should be showing up any time now.

Of course this is about privatization and future extractive industries laying waste. $$$$$ and retribution against all people and resources are the endpoints. They are nihilistic. There needs to be an uprising in response.

Look for the parks to be exploited for resources, minerals… I expect Russian oligarchs will be granted special privileges to hunt in places like Yosemite and Sequoia National Park to be logged

Kevin,

You and I know their goal. It is to erase and rewrite our history. Soon money will be flowing to erect statues of Trump in every public venue, and streets will be renamed for him.

All the, watch your six.

Wait until they try to privatize the NPS.

It’s not bashing when they’re trying to erase history and white wash it.

Oh, and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

When you're lost in a cloud of hostile, incoherent, Trump-cult nonsense, it's impossible to see that ANY presidential administration's thoughtlessly incoherent attack on our national parks is also an attack on decent, constructive national memory of the Civil War.

I am sorry you see this as "Trump bashing." I thought I was standing up for history. Either way, I suggest you unsubscribe and find another newsletter that is more to your liking. As always, thanks for reading and take care.
