Thank You For Reading Civil War Memory
A quick note on this third-year anniversary of writing on Substack.
Three years ago this month I moved my blog from WordPress to Substack. This coming November will mark twenty years of writing online. Little did I know just how much my life would change after hitting the publish button on that first blog post all those years ago.
Blogging has opened so many doors for me as a historian and history educator, but more importantly it has connected me to thousands of people across the country and beyond, who share my deep interest in American history and history education.
I just wanted to take a minute to thank all of you for sharing this journey with me. Thank you for taking the time to read and for your thoughtful comments and questions. I hope you realize how much I enjoy interacting and learning from all of you.
But more importantly, maintaining this site fuels my optimism and hope for the future. I am reminded each and every day that there are thoughtful and caring people out there, who acknowledge the importance of history and history education as a bulwark of democracy and its role in encouraging the values that allow us to see the humanity in one another.
I can’t remember a time when I was more excited about my online writing. I feel a sense of purpose that I haven’t felt in the past and that is also a result of your enthusiasm. Thank you.
This promises to be a challenging year on a number of fronts for all of us. I will continue to do my best to bring you thoughtful content that both entertains and challenges all of us to think more critically about our collective past and its place in our lives.
Happy Anniversary! I'm glad I found your substack. Especially in these times.
Thank you. and I look forward to reading all of it! Keep up the great work.
