I had always assumed that the prologue was pieced together from various letters, but I'm frankly surprised to learn that some of it is entirely fictional. Given the other many fictional elements in the movie, I suppose I shouldn't be, but I am.

As always, you bring the truth to bear on current views, AI or otherwise, about the Civil War. I don’t remember this opening scene, but as I read I was thinking, “That’s not the view he held on slavery that Kevin has taught us. And I believe Kevin, so what’s going on?” It reminds me of the many books that have been turned into movies, whose only resemblance to the book is the title.

And you’re absolutely right about search terms. Wish we were both still teaching full time (how is that class going, btw?) so we could keep teaching our kids how to get sound results and not Facebook references.
