Today I’m announcing a brand new addition to my Substack publication: the Civil War Memory subscriber chat.
This is a conversation space in the Substack app that I set up exclusively for my premium subscribers — kind of like a group chat or live hangout.
I’ve been thinking about ways to go premium on Substack, but the last thing I wanted to do was cut readers off from my regular content. I have a number of ideas about how to utilize this new space. A few of you may remember my attempt a few years back to use twitter to host a book discussion group. I thought it went really well and I think this space will be perfect for future discussions. We can also use it to discuss shorter articles and primary sources as well.
I also plan to use this space to share documents that I am using in my current research projects as well as follow-up thoughts to my daily posts. It will also be a space where you can ask me questions as well.
And, of course, there will be more pics of Otis!
The sky is the limit.
Once you download the app head on over and check out the first chat post. It’s free.
I’ve really enjoyed connecting with so many of you here. I hope you will consider becoming a premium subscriber. Your support is very much appreciated and will allow me to continue to do the work that I love.
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app (messages are sent via the app, not email). Turn on push notifications so you don’t miss a chance to join conversation as it happens.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Chat is only on iOS for now, but chat is coming to the Android app as well as your desktop soon.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
I’ve already started my first chat thread so come on over and say hello!
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Would love to join, but no smart phone of either type. I still rely on a flip phone. I do have a tablet (Amazon Fire) and a laptop, so once an app comes for those, I will plan to sign up.
