One of the things I really enjoyed about my recent interview with historian Chris Graham was his analysis of the stained glass windows inside St. Paul’s Episcopal Church that honor Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis. Most of the Richmond congregation was unaware that the windows honored the two Confederate leaders when they came up for discussion following the Charleston murders in 2015.
You’ll see why.
Chris does an excellent job of laying out the historical context for the dedication of the windows in the 1890s and with analyzing the windows themselves.
I thought it would be helpful to share this part of the interview for those of you who don’t have the time to watch it in its entirety. It also makes for a really good classroom resource for those of you teaching the Civil War and Civil War memory.
I’ve decided to make these book discussions available to all subscribers. I simply can’t justify asking someone to take time out of their schedule to talk about their new book and only make it available to a couple hundred subscribers, which I hope makes sense.
More general discussions, including my upcoming interview with Ty Seidule, will, however, only be available to paid subscribers.
That said, if you enjoy these interviews I hope you will consider subscribing as a paid member or upgrading to a paid membership. Your support makes it possible for me to purchase new books and please keep in mind that it takes time to prepare for these interviews.
Upcoming Dates
